Starvin Marvin’s Pizzeria and Grille has permanently closed its Frederick restaurant, ending a nearly four-decade run for the family-owned business.

The longtime local pizzeria, located at 6942 Crestwood Boulevard, had announced in November that its owners were preparing to step away from the pizza business after 38 years. At the time, the owners said the sale of the Frederick restaurant was expected to be finalized in mid-December, with a new pizzeria concept planned for the space, as we previously reported.

That transition, however, did not happen as originally expected. In January, the owners announced that the sale of the business had stalled and told customers they would continue operating while the restaurant’s future remained uncertain.

Now, the Frederick location has closed for good. The restaurant’s storefront windows have been covered, and a “Coming Soon” sign for Habanero Pizza has been placed at the site.

Starvin Marvin’s was first opened by the family in Gaithersburg in 1987, before that location was later sold in 2012. The Frederick restaurant opened in 2009 and became the family’s remaining Starvin Marvin’s operation.

When announcing their plans to close last year, the owners described the decision as emotional and difficult.

“After 38 incredible years, we are ready to step away from the pizza business,” they wrote in a social media post at the time.

They also said the “Starvin Marvin” name would retire with the family for now, though they left open the possibility that a younger generation could one day revive the brand.

“The great late Frank Sinatra once sang, ‘I DID IT MY WAY,’ and that’s exactly how we feel,” the owners wrote in November. “Thank you, Frederick, for your support all these years.”
