Catoctin Colorfest Festival:

Established in 1963, Colorfest has grown to become one of the most extensive outdoor craft exhibitions on the East Coast. Beyond being just an event, Colorfest offers a complete experience in Thurmont, Maryland.

The town is transformed into a vibrant showcase of remarkable crafts, art, jewelry, clothing, and an array of delightful culinary delights. On Saturday Oct 11- Sunday Oct 12 from 9am-5pm, you can witness craft demonstrations, including the art of broom making, wood turnings, and intricate wood carvings of flowers.

While admission to Colorfest is free, a fee is charged for parking at all parking locations.

Fall Fest at Catoctin Furnace:

Enjoy crisp days and brilliant fall colors during Fallfest at historic Catoctin Furnace. Watch as apple butter is stirred in a copper kettle over an open fire. Maybe even take a pint home! See a blacksmith at work, or walk through the furnace ruins. There are fun activities for kids, and easy hikes on the Iron Trail and African American Cemetery Trail. Take a tour of the Museum of the Ironworker, and visit the early 20th century F.W. Fraley General Store. It’s easy to have a fabulous fall at Catoctin Furnace!

From burglaries and brawls to bootlegging and bedaubing (vandalism), Frederick’s history is full of all things macabre- and we’re here to share them with you!

This tour discusses violence and crime and is recommended for visitors age 12+
