Canines on The Creek Returns To Downtown Frederick This Saturday

For the fourth year in a row, the Francis Scott Key Lions Club is set to host “Canines on the Creek,” a delightful celebration of Frederick’s enduring love for dogs. This event promises a dog parade, a Halloween costume competition for both dogs and their owners, captivating exhibits, enticing prizes, generous giveaways, and captivating demonstrations.

This event is scheduled to take place at the Carroll Creek Linear Park amphitheater in downtown Frederick on October 28, from 2 to 5 p.m., regardless of the weather conditions. It’s being organized in collaboration with the Downtown Frederick Partnership and the nonprofit organization Leader Dogs for the Blind.

For those eager to participate in the dog costume contest and parade, whether through advance registration or in-person, the fee is $25 per dog. Registration can be completed at http://fsklions.org/canines. Spectators are warmly encouraged to join in the fun.

While monetary and pet food donations are certainly appreciated, they are not obligatory.

An exciting addition this year is a dog agility demonstration by Breakaway Action Dogs, scheduled at around 4 p.m. at the amphitheater. The costume contest and parade are planned to commence around 3 p.m.

Contest categories for judging include best owner and dog look-alikes, best small breed costume, best medium breed costume, and best large breed costumes. First and second-place prizes will be awarded in each of these categories, along with numerous door prizes for participants to potentially win.

Every dollar raised during the event goes to support Leader Dogs for the Blind, an organization deeply connected to the Lions Club, which they established and are actively engaged with. Leader Dogs for the Blind specializes in offering guide dog training, facilitating matching services, and providing client orientation and mobility training. Their mission is to empower blind and low-sight individuals with the skills and assistance needed for a life marked by independence and self-assuredness.
