BOOMTOWN is set in the early 70s and tells of a small group of rebels that led a revolution to save their town that sparked a Renaissance– a boom in creativity of all American City proportions.

The Comedy Pigs:


Established in 1993, The Comedy Pigs are the region’s longest-running improv troupe, and they’re ready for another great season. Join them on the first Friday and Saturday of every month for hilarious shows filled with a series of fun short-form improv games. No two shows are ever the same, so be sure to join them each and every month!

Maple Syrup Festival:

Celebrate the annual Maple Syrup Festival at Cunningham Falls State Park! Guests can watch staff demonstrate the traditional way of boiling sap into syrup, listen to live bluegrass music, and take a hayride through the Maple Grove. Try your hand in the great pancake race – trying to flip a pancake on the run ahead of other contestants – or enjoy a hot pancake breakfast with sausage and maple syrup.

Events take place each day of the event from 10AM to 2PM. A sign language interpreter will be stationed at the Sugar Shack on both Sundays. Syrup-making demonstrations and hayrides take place every hour on the hour.   Suggested donation at entrance is $5.00 per person.  Breakfast, maple syrup products, and event souvenirs are available during the festival hours at extra cost.

Proceeds from the Maple Syrup Festival benefit the nonprofit Friends of Cunningham Falls and Gambrill State Parks. The park opens at 9 a.m. and closes at sunset. Pets are permitted on a leash, outside only. This event is ADA accessible. Visitors may call 301-271-7574 for more information.

Photo Walk: Painting with Your Smartphone Camera with Ron Ames:

Change how you see and alter your visual reality by using your camera as a brush! Learn how intentional camera movement can work with smartphone camera apps to create abstract and impressionistic images. This two-hour workshop includes instruction time, a walk around downtown Frederick, and an opportunity to share imges and insight. All skill levels welcome. Bring your own smartphone with either the Slow Shutter (iPhone, free) or Camera FV-5 Lite (Android, $5) app installed before the workshop.

Community Concert Series presents Brass of Peace:

Calvary UMC’s 2024-2025 Community Concert Series presents Brass of Peace. An auditioned ensemble, it features 15 gifted high-school musicians who participate in a 36-week intensive training program preparing them for the competitive field of music. Through weekly sessions by conductor Sylvia Alimena, former second hornist of the National Symphony for 29 years, these students build individual and ensemble skills along with confidence in performing. Their programs include works ranging from Bach, Brahms, and Mendelssohn to Mahler and Copland. This concert is sponsored in part by The Delaplaine Foundation and The William E. Cross Foundation.
