Route 15, Downtown Frederick Hotel Project Get Significant Funding in Governor’s Budget

Governor Wes Moore’s recently released budget includes significant funding for several key initiatives. The budget allocates $7.4 million towards the crucial Route 15 project in Frederick County, a long-awaited infrastructure upgrade that will improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and stimulate economic development in the region.

Additionally, the budget includes $7.5 million for the much-anticipated Downtown Hotel and Conference Center project. This project is expected to be a major catalyst for tourism growth, creating jobs and supporting local businesses.

Mayor Michael O’Connor expressed his enthusiasm in a press release published on 1/15, stating, “This is a bold budget that truly works for the residents of Frederick and invests in our shared priorities. “Improvements to Route 15 has been the City’s top transportation priority for more than 20 years, and this investment is critical to improving infrastructure and enhancing public safety. He added, “By investing in Route 15’s development and the downtown hotel and conference center, the Governor and his administration are demonstrating their commitment to infrastructure, economic development and the long-term vitality of Frederick and the State of Maryland. These investments reflect our collective vision of making Frederick a better place to live, work, and visit.”

Richard Griffin, Director of Economic Development, echoed the Mayor’s sentiments, highlighting the transformative impact of the hotel project on the city’s downtown area.

Beyond infrastructure and tourism, the Governor’s budget prioritizes workforce development through the RAISE Act, expanding access to apprenticeships and training programs across the state. This aligns perfectly with Frederick’s commitment to creating opportunities for its residents. Ericka Rohrbaugh, Manager of Opportunity and Transformation, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, “The RAISE Act will empower our young people with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st-century workforce.”
