A code RED air quality alert remains in effect for Frederick, MD and surrounding regions until 12 am on Friday June 9. Smoke clouds from the Canadian wildfires have made their way into the area causing poor air quality conditions.

Per The National Weather Service: “The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a Code RED Air Quality Alert Thursday for the Maryland Piedmont region.

A Code Red Air Quality Alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region are unhealthful for the general population. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.” NWS Alert
