Per Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO): “At approximately 3:30 p.m., today, Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) personnel notified Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) School Resource Officers (SROs) about threats of violence made at Urbana Middle School (UMS). A UMS student created a PowerPoint presentation threatening violence toward 10 other UMS students.
•
FCSO deputies immediately started an investigation and quickly identified the UMS male student as the suspect. The juvenile will face charges to include threats of mass violence and other charges are pending, as the investigation continues.
•
FCSO SRO’s contacted all 10 families of the students targeted to ensure they knew of this situation and that there was no threat.
•
Since the suspect is a juvenile, the FCSO will not release the name or any other identifying information. Additionally, FCPS may enact their own disciplinary actions and will send out a notification to the UMS community.
•
If anyone has information about this incident, contact the FCSO at 301-600-1046.”
